Stretching
How long does it take to stretch your ear?
Stretching a piercing is a gradual process which will take several months or years depending on how large you want to go. It’s important you allow ample healing time between sizes, this is to give your ear a chance to deal with the trauma of stretching. (approx. 1-2mm every 6 weeks)
What if I stretch Quickly?
If you move too fast you risk damaging the collagen layer in your ear. You can stretch 1mm per week or even 1mm per day but the chances of serious damage are HIGH.
How far can I stretch before it wont return to normal?
There are no hard fast rules but the slower you stretch your ear, the more chance it has of it returning back to normal, also if you shrink the stretching the same way that you stretched it this will help. ie. you have an 18mm stretching, take it out when you sleep and replace it with a 16mm in the morning and so on.
How do I stretch my ear?
The best and easiest way to stretch is to increase the size of the piercing 1mm at a time. You can try using hot water on some hand towels or change it in the bath or shower (the warm water will help your ear to expand slightly).
What sort of lubrication can I use? ,
Water,
KY Jelly or any other water based lubricant will help.
It is important you continue to clean the ear during the stretching process using salt water or saline solution to help the ear heal.
Aftercare
We recommend that any fresh piercing should be cleaned with a saline solution, either Saline contact lens cleaner, or you can make your own, by boiling a pint of water and adding a half teaspoon of salt.
Disolve the salt, and, when cool, use this to clean piercing.
Clean piercing 2 - 3 times a day. It is possible to over clean a piercing,
so try and find what works best for you.
Clean piercing in the morning, being careful if dislodging any hardened lymph (Scabby bits).
Clean piercing after bathing or showering, to remove any soap residue.
- Oral piercings, drink plenty of cold water.
- Oral piercings, use Ibuprofen, as directed during your aftercare speech.
Do not use Paracetamol, Aspirin, Disprin...
Most piercings, during the healing period, will ooze pus and the area may be slightly inflamed looking. This is normal during healing and is a good indication of when you should be cleaning your piercing.
It is important that you do your best for your piercing.
Avoid swimming, sunbeds, etc for at least 6-8 weeks and always clean thoroughly afterwards
until your piercing is fully healed. Avoid cleaning with TCP, Surgical spirits, etc.
If you decide to use any essential oils, make sure they are well diluted.
For oral piercing, avoid alcohol and amphetamines, at least until you have your jewellery changed.
Do not wear restrictive clothing over the piercing as this can cause migration, and in extreme
cases, rejection. Try to steer clear of inferior metals, silver, pewter, gold plated, as these will have a detrimental effect on your piercing. Jewellery can be bought from a wide variety of sources now, some better than others, if you are buying jewellery elsewhere, be sure to examine it, make sure it has no scratches or blemishes, make sure it is the right size for your piercing and most importantly, that it is clean. If you are unsure of a piece of jewellery, don't buy it. If you have jewellery which you would like cleaned, we offer this service free of charge. We reserve the right to refuse to fit a piece of jewellery.
If you have any questions, or comments, please feel free to get in touch. We aim to
provide a quality service, which includes after-care, for as long as you wear your piercing.
